The following procedures ensure the most effective application
possible for the truncated domes which create the ADA detectable
warning surface. By using this method, you will save on
remove and replacement costs of your detectable warning
systems:
 |
STEP 1
Metal
frames (2’x4’, 2’x5’, 2’x6’,
or 2’x8’) have been designed to effectively
and securely hold the panels of truncated domes in place.
Set frame to grade prior to sidewalk
pour. |
 |
 |
STEP 6
Lower
down and set detectable warning system panels (125 lbs
ea.) in using mule tape. The fit is tight; therefore,
the tape is recommended for ease of installation. Even
out panels making sure each panel is placed evenly. |
 |
STEP 2
Pour concrete and finish off neatly. |
 |
 |
STEP 7
Sweep extra sand into joints to fill small seams. |

 |
STEP 3
Cure for 24 hours
STEP 4
Distribute ½” sand in base of framed concrete. |
 |
 |
STEP 8
Stabilize sand between detectable warning system
panels using either Seal Lock superior masonry
liquid sealer or polymer sand. This added
sand fill protection ensures exceptional resistance
from heavy rain or water trucks. Seal-Lock stabilizer
will NOT cement panels in place, as with mortar,
allowing easy removal for repairs. Seal-Lock will
also enhance the color of the panels while improving
the durability and resistance to the elements.
Seal-Lock is available at your local concrete specialties
store. |
 |
STEP 5
Grade the sand evenly using with a sand jig. |
 |
 |
STEP 9
Finished
ADA detectable warning surface. |
As you can see by installation, removal and replacement
of a single truncated domes panel is easy. Simply pop out
the cracked panel and replace with new panel. No mess, no
tearing out of entire ramp – one panel at a time!
